Greek Yogurt

We had Skinny Taste's Creamy Grape Dessert at the luncheon this afternoon. One of the ingredients in the dessert is Greek yogurt, Cook's Illustrated (America's Test Kitchen) recently did a review of Greek yogurts, and it is clear that all brands our not created equally, literally. If you are interested in their findings you can read about it here. If any of you find their winner, Olympus Traditional Greek Nonfat, let me know, I have yet to find it stocked at any of our grocery stores.

Our Next Challenge

With only one week left in our 8-week challenge, there's so many things to say, it's simply not very clear where to start...
First of all, THANK YOU!  A huge and loving thank-you to each and everyone of us that has persevered along this path.  As any of us, I'm sure, can attest to,  this has been so many things along the way.  It's been about new connections and new friendships; knowing you're not alone; learning how to exercise right; finding the truth; wanting to give up but somehow finding the strength not to; sidestepping the sugar; drinking better; cooking better; tasting better; looking better; and smiling easier.

It's also been about crying and frustration.  It's been about realizing that sometimes each one of ourselves can truly be our own worst enemy, while at the same time finding out that a simple text message of "S.O.S." can bring countless responses of support and encouragement right when we need it most.

It's been about gathering together, and working alone.  It's been about big changes, and static plateaus. Perhaps most importantly though, it's been about love.  Love for ourselves, and love for each other.  It really has become a "sisterhood."  What we've done here can and will continue to have a lasting impact on our entire lives.  So thank you, thank you. I can't say it enough.

All right, enough said.  It's time now to switch things up a bit, but keep movin' on down the line! Our next challenge will be four weeks long and will give us the opportunity to work with a fitness and diet expert, I'd like to introduce everyone to Nick Olsen:

Nick is a personal trainer based here in Salt Lake City, but he has clients from all over the United States.  He has worked with hundreds of individuals to teach them how to increase their quality of life through fitness and health.  His fitness philosophy is all about creating lasting change and not just temporary “fad diets” or workout sprints.  He has an unparallelled passion for his work which is based on his own experience of getting in shape.

Nick has created what he calls the 4-Week Challenge.  (Check out his website here: http://4weekchallenge.com/ )  During this challenge, he will not only design individual work-outs based on each of our individual needs, he also specializes in designing and helping each of  implement a meal plan according to our individual requirements. You don't have to belong to a gym, he will customize your workouts for what you have. It's a great opportunity for all of us to learn more about ourselves and our own specific needs.

Nick has agreed to meet with us here in Sandy next week and do a personal kick-off with our group. (I'm thinking we could do it 8:00PM on Thursday when most of us might have a better opportunity to be available.)  The cost would be $39.96 for each of us.

So if you, or anyone you know, would like to be a part of this new 4-Week Challenge, let me or Lizzy know by Monday, March 26th.

You basically just choose your favorite soda (2 liters), add a 14 oz. can of sweetened condensed milk (could be fat free), throw it in an ice cream maker, turn it on and 30 minutes later you have a creamy blend of deliciousness. The variations are endless, like Sunkist for a dreamsickle taste or Rootbeer float!

-1/4 c quick oats
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
-1 T. Soy milk, milk, or water

St. Patricks Day Smoothie

For St. Patricks Day try out this Skinnytaste recipe- Green Monster Smoothie, Monica made this smoothie at our last luncheon, it was delicious and tasted like peanut butter!

Computer vs Exercise

Clara shared something with me today that I wanted to pass along. She recently read a diet book that advocated only spending as much time on the computer or watching TV as you have spent exercising that day. She explained the theory behind this is that while on the computer or watching TV your body goes into a sleep like state and slows down calorie burning, the only way to compensated for the loss of calorie burn is to exercise.

Looking Ahead

Hello,
Well we are now on week 6. On one hand I can't believe we are almost done and on the other I am getting  a bit less motivated than the first few weeks. But I have taken time to really think about this. I have always started my exercise and new menu plans, and for some reason I only get through 1 or 2 months then just stop. Which then leads me to gain more weight or stay where I'm at. I realize most people like to look ahead at a long term goal. I have always tried that and this time I  realize I need to stop looking ahead and try  focusing on my present day. The future is not something I can grasp but today is something I can control. So I am happy to say that today I think I found my happy place in all this. I found what works for me and this picture summarizes the whole thing. I most ALWAYS wake up with determination and excitement to start another day off right. Somewhere around noon I struggle whether to give in for the day or hold out till the end then by and by 3 or 4 I lose it. I just have to remember that I want to go to bed knowing I gave it my all. So for me my "looking ahead" will be no further than my bed and whether or not I can feel good about the choices I made that day.  I wish you all the best of luck this week. I hope to hear from more of you on here. I love coming to the blog when I have down time, or am having a hard day. So keep'em com'n

"Oh, the Places You'll Go!"

In honor of Dr. Seuss today and this "journey" we're on....

"I'm sorry to say so
but, sadly, it's true
that Bang-ups
and Hang-ups
can happen to you.

You can get all hung up
in a prickle-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on.
You'll be left in a Lurch."

As many of you "fly on", the past few days I have been "hung up"...or rather down...sick. Ugh!  I had every intention to get all my points for this week, but I have failed.  I didn't work-out yesterday and today isn't looking so good either.  The last thing I want to eat is veggies, nothing sounds good for that matter.  And I am struggling to drink all my water.  I'd rather just lay in bed (as much as I can with children around).

But, I am NOT GIVING UP!  Because...

"Will you succeed?
Yes!  You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 guaranteed.)"

"KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!"

....And I really hope to literally "move"...okay at least "hike" those mountains. :)

Can you do it?.....YES!!!!!

Ladies we are NOT going to give up. Keep holding on and asking for help and pushing yourself. I love that this says "to support without breaking or yielding" That is what we are all here for is that unbreakable support. DO NOT GIVE UP YET keep pushing. Its the weekend and we know those are the scariest and most challenging times. Be strong and watch every bite and move your body a bit more. GOOD LUCK:):):)
